In the world of social media and more frequently the "Influencer" space of various platforms, the term "collaborate" seems to be sprinkled around like pepper. Collaborate is so casually tossed around in emails between brands and Influencers, but is a sponsored post really a collaboration? I find myself asking these questions in my head after the day I spent with three of the most wonderful people aka Maddie, Amanda and Kayla.
This Saturday from a few weeks back was a girl's day between Amanda and I turned to a beautiful creative storm that turned strangers to friends, and was the pure essence of collaboration. Maddie invited Amanda and I to stop by and check out a local Indy Airbnb she was doing some social media work for with the help of Kayla's photography skills and what we walked into was one of the most inspiring (not to mention cute as hell) spaces I have ever had the plessure to be in.
The best part about this pretty yellow place is that it's an AIRBNB!!! If you live under a rock and haven't learned about the amazing things that are Airbnb's, they are people's homes or parts of people's homes that they rent out like a hotel room to people traveling or staying somewhere for a relatively short period of time. Most of the time they are just average looking spaces, but some AIrbnb-er's will go above and beyond and thoughtfully design their space.
Check out this Airbnb (and other insanely cute ones) on Instagram:
Deborah, the owner of the Airbnb has created a home that is truly an inspiring space. The opportunity that the four of us were given to use Deborah's home as a studio/ place to spend the day is one that I am so grateful for. The chance we had to build off of her interior design work with our own styling and photography as well as off of each other's creativity opened my eyes to true collaboration.
The content that was produced from our genuine collaboration was not only great work, but a great lesson to learn which is the importance of working together in our creativity. As a creative person it is easy to get wrapped up in your own work and goals, and forget the importance that community plays in creative success. This day continues to remind and encourage me to seek out creative community and find those other creative minds in the area you live (or even other areas), because as we work towards our goals true collaboration is a vital part in bettering everyone's work involved. I hope that it can move you to do the same!
